My Paintings

At the top of the page are my latest paintings, done from the last few years to present. The paintings get older the farther down the page you go. My subject matter ranges all over the map, as well as the painting style I use for each painting. Some are done alla prima, some are done in several several sessions with layer upon layer of glazes. If you have questions about any painting, please contact me and I will talk about it!
Picture
"Still life with Gourds", 16 x 20, oil on canvas. I was trying out some new oil paints, M. Graham which uses walnut oil instead of linseed. I really like the paint. Besides that, this is the first painting I have "wanted" to paint since my father passed away early 2022. I finished this one mid December, so at least I got one in before the end of the year.
Picture
"Soque Blue", oil on canvas, 30x40. Commission painting.
Picture
"Winter Forage", oil on canvas, 20 x 30. This is my third painting of 2022. I have to admit I have not been very motivated ever since my back surgery in October 2021. I am starting to feel better about painting again.
Picture
"Overcast Pastures" oil on board, 11 x 14. I dragged out some old slides and this was one of them. The dun horse to the right is in memory of a friends horse who died, and the white horse to the left was added for the owner of the painting.
Picture
This was a difficult painting for me to do since Sam was such a good friend, and the emotion of his passing was still pretty raw. We loved seeing him come into the store, especially just to visit. His visits always included smiling and laughing. This will go in the foyer at Hillside Memorial Chapel. It has been my great honor to have painted this for his wonderful wife Martha. RIP Sam Tolbert. Oil on Canvas
Picture
"The Watering Hole 2" oil on canvas, 48" x 36". I have done a similar painting to this one on a much smaller scale, but someone gave me an old frame this size so I made a painting to fit it. There is a LOT of texture in the foreground and on the fox. 2020.
Picture
"Lulu in a Tutu" oil on canvas, 16 x 20. A Christmas present for my cousin Michael, 2020
Picture
"The Gold's of Autumn", 72" x 60", (6'x5'). I placed myself in the image to show scale. You can also see my Covid hair and beard! This was painted from October to late December 2020 as a Christmas Present for my son and his family to go over their fireplace. The only criteria he gave me was "We want fall colors". I think I nailed it! LOL. Reference credit goes to Seaq68 at Pixabay (https://pixabay.com/images/id-2942443)
Picture
"Arbor" oil on oil primed linen, 14 x 18. My daughter took the reference photo for this painting while on a scuba diving trip in the Bahamas.
Picture
"Focus" oil on Ampersand Gessobord, 24w x 18h. My goal here was to have the buck disappear into the background like they do in real life. In this photo is does stand our more than it does while looking at the real painting!

Picture
Buffeting Buffet, Oil on Canvas, 24"w x 12"h I wanted to see if I could pull off painting translucent waves. I am pleased with the way it turned out. I wish I had painted it on board though so the canvas texture would not be so evident.

God's Light. Oil on Canvas 30 x 40. This is an important painting for me personally in that it is the first painting I did after a nearly four year drought. I felt I had lost "it" and laid down the brushes. This image brought me back. The title reflects a double meaning.

The Introduction. Oil on canvas 36 x 48 Personal collection. This painting depicts my wife Gail introducing our new Shi'tzu puppy Oreo to our boss cat Doofus. Fishing the Secret Hole. Oil on Canvas 30 x 40. A beautiful stream in North Carolina. The greens were super intense and that was what I was trying to capture.
Reverie, Oil on Canvas 5feet x 6feet (60x72) This is a painting of my daughter when she was 18. It has an early 20th century flavor; depicting a young woman enjoying a glass of wine and the beautiful view.
