Fishing Otter Be Fun - Oil on Linen - 49 x 30

"Fishing Otter Be Fun" is a fun play on words. In this scene we have met a pair of otters while we are fishing along this beautiful river. It is early and the water is very still; the reflections are almost mirror like. The otters spot us but the one with the trout doesn't seem to want to give up his spot. This is a common occurrence while trout fishing and I love to see little critters going about their lives as I fish. Fishing is almost a Zen activity. It is refreshing and relaxing, and I love being alone with nature. The background reference photo was taken by my very good friend Christy.
For this painting I wanted to try a different approach to the size of the painting.  I wanted to use the Golden Mean to set the ratio. I wanted the height to be 30". Golden Mean is 1.618 so that made the width 48+. I upped it to 49", so the overall  size is 30" x 49". I also used the GM to place the otters in the painting. See the golden mean photo below. I also wanted to use Linen for a finer texture, hoping it would help with the reflection illusion. I think it worked out beautifully for that!
